Committee Head Speeches!
Here are the speeches for the people who are running for Committee head spots!
PR/Fundraising
Laursony and Lynn
Since Laursony and I are the only nominations, here's our short but sweet speech.
"Laursony and Lynncredible would like to keep doing what we're doing with PR/fundraising for another year. With the help of our fellow MissFits, we'll get the word out about derby thru a variety of methods and events, while also raising money to support our awesome league."

Hi MissFits!
I gladly accept my nomination to continue as co-head of the training committee, and would like to tell you why I want this position within the league.
In the time that Ice and I have been working together to make changes and move forward with the direction of this committee, I feel that we, as a league, have made so much progress in our skating ability, knowledge of skills and strategy, and motivation to continue as a competitive group.
I personally feel like I have found a great fit with the training committee, and a really enjoyable way to contribute to this league and this sport that I love. I love to teach, and I love to learn, and being co-head of the TC has allowed me many opportunities to do both.
So I thank you for this nomination and hope that you will allow me to continue doing what I love to do for the Fits.

Fresh Meat
Melle
Hi Fits!
My name is Hell’s Melle and I “Wanna B” your next Freshmeat Committee co-head!
As I’m sure you know, I’ve been around since before derby sperm met egg. I have watched as every class of freshmeat has gone from having baby deer legs to being the bad asses they all currently are. I’ve seen what has worked well and what hasn’t worked so well and, most importantly, have gained a huge understanding of what makes a great player/skater and (in my opinion, the most critical) a MissFit.
Being a captain this year has really expanded my knowledge of the game and of the skills necessary to play it well as possible. I went from one of those lone wolf players, someone who just looked out for herself and had trouble playing as a pack, to the co-leader of our team of tough Wanna B’s who are looking better and better every practice. I can bring that ability to lead and teach to our newest class of meat.
I also have access to the WFTDA forum (as your WFTDA liaison) so I’m able to conference with other leagues to see what has and hasn’t worked well for them and adapt it in order to make this class run as smoothly as possible.
And, most importantly, I have the PASSION. This league has changed me, made me more confident, more outgoing and given me so many sisters during a time where I wasn’t sure that I could ever be friends with girls again. I want to (and feel obligated to!) give back to the league that has given me so much. I feel like being the co-head of the Freshmeat Committee is the best Fit for me.
One of my favorite quotes has always been an Irish proverb: “Nii bjionn an rath ach mar a mbionn an smacht (There is no luck except where there is discipline).” No one is lucky enough to just be amazing at derby, we all have to work at it, and I have the discipline, knowledge, drive and love to be great at this position and to help others be great at it as well.
Can I get an amen!

Hey MissFits!
Just wanted to let you know that I would be super pumped if you choose me to to help with training the new Meat again.
I had asked Claw to run with me bc I know that she has the determination to help new girls succeed and the perfect attitude to lead
by example. It was our intention to run together but we have 3 ladies for you to choose from. I think Melle would also be amazing
at training our new MissFits. Let your votes fly bc I'm confident all of us would do a great job!
Happy Voting,

I am happy and excited that I have been nominated for co-head committee for Fresh Meat. This is an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone and become more involved and active with my league. I love being a part of this league. I am honored and truly love being a MissFit. Many women (and gents) in this league has helped me to open up and see in myself what I am capable of. If I can take on bout day coordinator, I can do just about anything. I feel that I am very dedicated and committed to this league. The Fresh Meat who becomes a part of our league, I want to be able to help motivate them and transition with less anxiety, and become more confident in their abilities. I would like to see them become committed to this league and become successful derby girls.
Thank you!

I feel I would be a good choice for Interleague coordinator for several reasons:
I have very good organizational skills. I am able to prioritize daily tasks so that they can
be completed in the most efficient manner possible.
I have excellent oral and written communication skills. This will be beneficial as Interleague Coordinator is
the point of contact with other leagues.
I am flexible and can easily switch gears as the need arises.
I am able to work with people from diverse and varying backgrounds. This is essential as all leagues are comprised
of indivuduals from all walks of life.
I have been acting as Hospitality coordinator for the past several bouts and feel that interleague coordinator is really an extention of that position. I have been making sure that team locker rooms are stocked appropriately and often check in w/ the visiting team to ensure their needs are being met. Intereague coordinator would take that a step further into actually setting up the bouts and sending out hospitality packets to visiting teams.
I feel I have the skills it takes to make contact with other leagues and work with other leagues to make sure we are exposed to teams that will be competitive and also expierenced.
My goal for our league is to be as competitive as possible while being able to be sustainable. As Interleague Bout coordinator, I will do the research needed to ensure that we are getting as much play as possible.
Since my short stint as an NSO and into becoming a skater, my committment to this league continues
to grow. I am very passionate about this league and believe that we are capable of big things.
I want to see us continue to take positive steps towards our very bright future!!
Thank you for your consideration.

Re: Committee Head Speeches!
Since interleague has to be two people, will I stay with smash then since others declined?
Re: Committee Head Speeches!
This is a voted position so a speech is prolly necessary? I know the nominations and people running has closed but will u be trying to run jerzii?
Re: Committee Head Speeches!
Also just a reminder there if you run for a committee head position, you are ineligible to be on P&P.

Re: Committee Head Speeches!
Yes is a voted position, so Mox are you wanting to run then?
Also as everyone noticed we now have NO head NSO! This is pretty uncool and I am not too sure how we will be able to get thru a bout without someone! This kind of goes along with everyone needs to pull their weight in this league. Is there anyone willing to step up?

Re: Committee Head Speeches!
So......looks like as a league we have some issues w/ no one wanting to step up for sponsorship or NSO.
I am not a person of many words, I keep alot to myself, but this isnt cool.
I struggled w/ a couple of things when I found out I was nominated - accepting a nomination/running for a head position and then which to go for. I wasnt sure if I wanted to give more of my personal time or give up my position on process & review.
Being head of a committee is time consuming, being in derby is time consuming w/ practices, events, bouts, committee work, the list can go on I am sure. But bottom line is that we all signed up to be a part of this league. We were all made aware of the time committment when we accepted a position in the league. This league will not survive if we dont all pitch in and make it work.
We all have life outside of derby as well - I am reminded occasionally by my other half of how much time I spend doing "derby" stuff. But I do it b/c I love it. I love this league and everyone in it. And she continues to support me b/c she also loves it and knows it makes me happy.
I didnt know what i was really getting in to when I tried out and made the team. It didnt take me long to fall in love w/ the sport, and the league......I know that I dont want to see this league fail, but that is what will happen if we dont have people to run the business side.
Without an NSO coordinator - how will we run our bouts? Without sponsorship - how will we raise additional money for the league? These committees are co-lead for a reason - to take some of the weight off and spread the work load. As it stands, not all committees have enough to be co-lead....this is ALOT of work for one person to assume.
When I was in high school, I was involved w/ the Rotary club, and they had a saying: "Dont be a member in name only" I think that applies here....dont be a skater in name only.
YOUR league needs you, YOUR team mates need you.
I ask everyone to think about what you really want from this league, and if you can give any additional time - do it, please, for the sake of the league and your team mates.
Please know this is coming from a very sincere place - out of a love for this sport and this amazing league.
I love you all and want to continue to get to know all of you and for us to continue to be an awesome league!!

Thank you Smash for this! I couldn't agree more! I posted my thoughts on this exact subject yesterday and I am glad to hear that I'm not the only thinking this. I love what you said that we all knew what we were getting into when we started. We are all hear cause we love playing derby. We all need to pitch in a do our fair share.

You rock my socks Smash. Thank you for speaking up and standing up for this league that we all love. I assume we're all here because we get something out of derby and the priviledge to call ourselves a Missfit. Shouldn't we put something back into it as well?

I know that we're all required to do a committee but is there a list anywhere or does anyone keep track of who is in the committees? Maybe if we had an idea of who isn't in a committee currently (if there is such a person) we could maybe find someone who is a good fit and isn't dedicating their energy to multiple situations?

Is Ross ineligible for nomination to NSO since he's on HR?
I don't remember what the new nomination rules are but I'd like to nominate him.

Howser, HR and BOD are not supposed to runs committee because our work load already is pretty freakin large...however if no one else is willing to step up we will prolly be forced to do it :/
Re: Committee Head Speeches!
also, ross doesn't want to do it.
if i were able to, i would run for nso head, but im already pretty occupied on bout days. :/

Re: Committee Head Speeches!
I declined my nomination for Sponsorship, but am interested (and by interested, I mean very interested) in heading up or co-heading up for the NSO committee.
I know I wasn't nominated for it, but if you're asking someone to step up, here I am. I have experience as an NSO since March 2011, and also NSO for bouts I'm not in. I'd love to have a co-NSO person, if anyone is interested - for those of you who were nominated, but weren't wanting to lead, here's your chance!
If I'm eligible, I guess that was my speech

I would think its best for an nso to be the head of nsos? Just looking at how time consuming it is and they wouldn't be worried about skating when they need to be focused on that.

I am an nso.
I'm also a skater.
I'm also one of the skaters who bouts the least among skaters in the league. I'm also someone who is willing to step up and help out. It would be great if a full-time nso would be co-committee head, as I mentioned earlier...

Re: Committee Head Speeches!
Sorry folks, I had thought really hard about running for head NSO, but then I got to thinking about how I will be going to school full time in the fall and I also made a commitment to the punishers. As much as I would love to be the missfit nso committee head, I am just worried that I would be too far in over my head, and that isn't fair to the missfits.

Re: Committee Head Speeches!
I was really surprised by getting nominated for NSO head. I declined the nod because I feel like I have finally found a good fit on PR and I really want to put my all into that. I am also part of the FM committee and plan on being extremely involved with the next round of meat! If I was more organized maybe I could handle being a NSO head too but I'm sorry to say that I am not
Thanks for thinking of me, Fits! <3
