2/25 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

I just got my registration email for Polar Plunge 2012! It's going to be February 25th this year at Miller Park Lake. This will be my 5th year doing it, and I really enjoyed having MissFits by my side this year
If you are interested in joining me this year, I will be posting more info soon. Basically, you pre-register, raise at least $75 through donations (which can be done through an online fundraising page) and then you dress up, swim in the icy lake and get a hoodie and chili about it afterwards. It's really fun and thr proceeds stay right here in McLean County. There are also prizes for costumes!
So, who's ready to be freezin' for a reason?!

2. Choose event: Miller Park plunge in Bloomington on February, 25th 2012
3. create a fundraising page.
4. Join my team! McLean County Freezing 'Fits!
5. Bug your friends and family for donations! (you can share your fundraising page on FB and email)

This may be a dumb question, but do you have to actually swim?

Like, how deep is the water? I am not a great swimmer and I don't want to go out there and drown and embarrass everyone and stuff.

So...count me in as long as I don't have to do laps or anything.

I could touch the bottom the whole time. You just kinda have to flop out and around this guy who's waiting in the water. The water didn't even go over my head (as long as we're doing it in the same spot).

So, not too deep for my midget self?

You have to go out and around a buoy about 20 feet out into the water, there are coast guard rescuers out there in the water in wet suits monitoring water temperature. Little kids do it every year, its about chest deep for me so you should be fine. Also, I was a lifeguard for 6 years so I will save your ass if need be

Ok im gonna put it out there. I hate the cold. Like, I cant handle it. So if I can support u girls in a warm way, im in.

Haha we should prawrbably drink a lot less alcohol the night before, or go for bloody Mary's earlier in the morning!

I vote for bloodies in the morning! Maybe we won't be as cold then! Can't wait for this!!!

OMG! Last year was SO much FUN! Yes it was cold but....AWESOME! I cant wait to do it again!

NOTE to first timers: wear old shoes that wont slip off your feet!

Crocs are the best for it because you can hose them off afterwards.

And don't wear a skirt! Not a cotton one, anyway. This year I'm wearing as little as possible.

I'm doing my scheduling for next year and just noticed this is on a Saturday this year and not a Sunday. Don't know if I will be able to do it this year...

That's weird because it has always been on Sunday.

I just signed up. Excited to see that Mr. Bates signed up, too - 'cause I know how much you'll hate it! Very manly of you!

Last year they had something where people could donate extra to get closer viewing space - maybe we could do that for a couple of non-plunging supporters. Aaron wasn't able to get really great pictures since he was trying to take them through the fence.
