Minimum Skills Testing & Travel Team Try Outs

SAVE THE DATES! The training committee has set the dates of Wednesday, December 12 & Sunday, December 16 at the YWCA for the league's minimum skills test and travel team try outs!! The board is asking for extended practice times on those days.

Day 1 (December 12) will be the testing for the WFTDA minimum skills.
Day 2 (December 16) will be the scoring for the try out/advanced skills that will be assessed towards travel team try outs.
We will put up a detailed explanation soon for the try out process. Its about finished! We have been and will continue to go through the skills that will be assessed for try outs. So there shouldn't be any surprises.

*You must pass minimum skills to bout, and therefore must pass minimum skills to try out for travel teams. There will not be retest days since the fresh meat must pass minimum skills to make the league.
*You must be present on the days of Wednesday, December 12 & Sunday, December 16 to try out for travel teams.
*If you are injured or absent on these days you will not be eligible to make travel teams for the season. There are no retest days for try outs.

Are we not taking a hiatus this year? Mandatory dates 9 days before the holidays kinda sucks. :/

We decided on these dates in order to provide our newbies (after passing their skills), along with the vets, a fair amount of practice time to focus on advanced skills and conduct some in-depth hitting and scrimmage workshops with them before tryouts.
We probably will be having a hiatus again this year, but no dates have yet been announced, and since the tryout and skills testing dates are over a week before the holidays, and we are announcing them this far in advance, we thought that would be the fairest way to go for everyone. Since we are offering freshies the opportunity to try out for a travel team, we'd like to also offer them the best chances possible by allowing time to focus on specific skills along with our vets.

I believe the December dates for tryouts to be done also with the knowledge that an application has been submitted for the B cup tourney so travel teams need to be decided early enough to know whos on what team and those members can practice together.

Don't we only go on hiatus for 2 weeks? We can still probably even do 3 weeks if we start leave following try outs and do not resume until Jan 6th. If we make the b cup that gives the 2013 team 4 weeks to practice together. I feel like this is the fairest time line with the short time frame we are working in. If it is pushed up, the fresh meat will not have a fair shot to review the try out skills, and if pushed back the 2013 team will risk not having ample practice times before the first bout. We are trying to be fair to everyone and are giving you plenty of time to plan for this given that it is near to the holiday season. Please be aware a lot of work and planning has gone into the try outs and skills testing. We really just want to have it quick and concise this year rather than giving up so much practice time towards skills testing. What we are striving for is a procedure we can follow in our future.
