01/14/12(saturday) blaze hockey game fundraiser

I met with Rachel from the Bloomington Blaze Hockey team yesterday.  She is really wanting us to get into one of their games. So her and I came up with a plan.  January 14th, 2012 she will be advertising the game as “Roller Derby Night.”  So what this means is that we will be featured at the game.  Similar to other hockey games we have been too we will skate around, sell 50/50 tickets and whoever wants to ice skate during the intermission to throw out shirts totally can!
 
The Blaze does not have any merch so I made a deal with Meltdown where he will make about 10-15 MissFits shirts with the Blaze logo on it and meltdowns logo for free to throw out in the crowd.  Rachel also wants us to invite the surrounding leagues like the Push, Punishers, Springfield, etc. They will recognize Roller Derby all night at this game.  We can make a night out of it!
 
When: Saturday January 14th 2012  Time will be announced at a closer date.

I'm totally in and can throw shirts on ice skates. I have some prawrctice at it.

I'd buy one of the T-shirts to wear - think Jerm would like to make a few more to sell? And I'll skate but I don't know how good my pitching arm is. Do we have a t-shirt cannon?

uhm laura that is totally funny because just last night josh and I were talking and he learned how to make a t-shirt cannon. I think it would be awesome to have one, but it would cost like $60 to make one so he said no way is he doing it for me just to have for bouts lol He said it would shoot out other things like glitter or confetti too which would be awesome so I might have to save some nickles for that...

I've never ice skated before... does it translate from roller skates/blades? I think I could probably do it. I want to at least try. (NO jokes about my name Mark!)
p.s. That is so amazing that she wants to invite local leagues as well! go roller derby!

They let us use the slingshot the last time, but that shit is hard. Ice skating kills my arches, but its pretty close to roller blading the weight distribution is just different on your feet and it makes your ankles feel wobbly.

Ice, the last time I ice skated was 2 Christmases ago, when I was about as good on ice skates as I was on roller skates. I really want to try it again this winter to see if what I've learned translates to ice skates at all. My husband won't go skating with me again (something about not wanting to fall and crush little kids), so I'd love to see a MissFits ice skating get-together over our break! We can call it practice :-)

I started with ice skating, and I definitely think the transition from ice skates to roller skates is easier than the other way around. I went ice skating a few times after I started derby and it took me a few laps to get used to it again because Jackers is right, the weight distribution is different. Also my Riedell R3s are so much more comfortable than my ice skates. But the skating motion is the same, and you can totally do plow stops on ice skates!

I'm down to skate on the ice and toss out shirts again! And yes, let's go ice skating as a group before this event...mmmm hot chocolate

The only way I ice skate is scooting on my ass with them on or holding onto the side railing the whole time.

Also we can do 50/50 here since it is the colesiums raffle not ours. We will be making a cut of it though!

Remember this is roller derby night! So we need to invite other leagues, make a night of it and bring the sport of roller derby to everyone's attention!!

And also after this game our sponsor meltdown is playing a show at firehouse and I thought it would be cool if some of us can go there and show him our support!!

Jerzii!! There's also open skate at the Pepsi Ice Center at the Coliseum. Although I'm not planning to ice skate that night, I thought it would be tons of fun to get a group together and go maybe Friday night?

Dinah..Id be down to come out to you gals to TRY to ice skate. Just lemme know...im watching this thread by email. whats the time of the open skate and can I bring my daughters or will this be no kiddies for Friday?

Heck yeah!! The open skate times are 7:30-9 and all ages are welcome. Admission is $5 and skate rental is $2, but there's a discount for groups of 10 of more. Hows about if I throw out an invite on Facebook and see how many people we can get together?

Oh hey MissFits, the sign up is looking a little bare...the last hockey game we went to was not well attended. We see a lot of the same people over and over at events. Please sign up for a slot and help your league raise some money. The skating slot means mingling in the concourse on your skates, not ice skating necessarily.

This is Dave and my 7 year annv...so I'm not sure if he has plans (prolly not) but if we do not do anything I will def come and help.

The hockey games are pretty fun.
