Training Committee Co-Head Speeches

I am honored to be nominated as TC co-head! I have been on the training committee as long as it has existed, but I feel like the last year I have been able to contribute more than ever before. I learned so much from the way that Ice and JMFK ran practices, that I feel much more comfortable teaching the skills.
JMFK and I are very similar in our teaching styles, and work well together when we get to share a practice plan. I think we would be a good pair to continue the path the TC has been going down, and look forward to that opportunity.
Thanks again for the nomination!

Hello all,
Thank you for the opportunity to be training committee co-head, it makes me pretty darn excited! Most people in this league have been to my practices and have been around long enough to know my experience as a coach. For those of you who do not know, I have been an active coach for over two years. I started off with the Peoria Push, where I was a part of the coaching committee for almost a year and a half. We didn't really have coaches before that, just vets that ran practices. After I was voted in as a coach, yes you read that right, we had to be voted in to be a coach, I started researching derby drills. I sometimes spent 4 to 5 hours planning a 2 hour practice because I was finding so much information that we didn't know. During this time, I was coming to Bloomington with other Push coaches to help the Missfits learn the awesome game of derby
I joined the Missfits about a year ago and have been on training committee for about 8 or 9 months. I think this is one area that I do really well in. I LOVE teaching and helping ALL skaters, no matter what their skill level is. My belief is that a team is only as strong as its weakest link and that's why I know it's very important for all of us to do well, and everyone has room for improvement. I like to run practices that are concise and to the point without being overly repetitive. I spend a lot of time looking up exercises, learning about muscles, and trying to think of ways to teach newbies while still challenging the vets. I think it is important that everyone do their best, try their hardest, and be respectful during practice. Practice is a time for learning, growing, and developing techniques that are essential for a competitive league, such as ours. I feel I have a lot to offer this league and would love to be JMFK's sidekick! Everyone in training committee does an amazing job and we all work very hard to make every practice the best we can. Thank you,
Sass
