Summer Hiatus Proposal

So the Board has been talking and we would like to propose a small hiatus in the summer. We have a period where there are no bouts scheduled. We thought maybe we could break, refresh and regroup. Just like over the holidays. Please take a look at some of the dates we were thinking. We will be sending out a poll with these dates and a “no hiatus” option within the next few days.

Proposed dates:

Sunday 6/23- Saturday 7-6 or Sunday 7-7

Sunday 6/30- Saturday 7/13 or Sunday 7/14

Sunday 7/7- Saturday 7/27 or Sunday 7/28

Sunday 7/21- Saturday 8/3 or Sunday 8/4

I don't get the Sat or Sun thing? Also roller con is the last week of July so that might be a good break time, just sayin

FM will be ending bootcamp on Jun 20th. It is our plan as FMC to have the FM scrimmage during any hiatus we might have. It would work best as one of the first 2 choices and to also have the break around july 4th. If we do have a break the freshies will need loads of helpers for reffing and bench coaching. Hopefully if we take 2 weeks off it won't be the longest 2 weeks ever bc we will still have derby in the form of FM. They will need the time together and it will be the first time we get a chance to try it this way. Hopefully everyone is on board with our ideas!

Can we have this vote asap so we can give the girls a full calender at tryouts? It would be really helpful to FMC. Sorry to be a pain!

Sick will this be the same as before where you have to sign up and get a spot in time to participate with the FN if we do have the hiatus?

Sick we will get it out as soon as we can And Camp the Saturday and Sunday thing is we might come back that Sunday or have that Sunday off.

Thanks Nonny! Jerzii, we are still nailing down details but we probably will need some vets since we aren't expecting to take on enough skaters to get 2 full benches. However, we would need vets to be hyper aware of FM playing style and will limit it to positional blocking or something. We will need refs, nso's and bench coaches as well. When we decide on all of the ins and out we will probably post a few sign ups for these nights. For most vets who would like to come we are gonna need a staff to make it work first and foremost and we are excited to possibly be able to give them this opportunity before they come to play in a vet scrimmage. I think we can all agree that this is a vital step that we have always been unable to do until now. Hope we get everyone on board to sign up and make it happen!

Awww, my first post on here. Anyway, I'm a Vet... Freshie and would love to help if you need additional skaters for the FM scrimmage. Just let me know.

There will be 2 weeks of practice after the A's outfit bout. The first week Sunday is Father's day, Wed FM will be testing during practice. For the 2nd week the freshies will start as Seasoned Meat! Hopefully we can make that week amazing for them! They will use your practice slots to scrimmage during the break. Anyone willing to help bench coach, ref, and NSO to make this happen will be of most assistance during hiatus! Thanks!

So I was just looking at this and when we do voting on multiple things maybe we should rank? When you look at the breakdown this was determined by 9 people in the league. I know only 29 voted but this essentially leaves 20 people unhappy and 9 people happy :/

This has been an issue with things we have voted on in the past too so it seems like we should come up with a better system.

Totally agree. If you look at this, let's say those 3 people from the bottom choice decided that July 7 - 27 was their second choice, then it would have made that option win. Possibly even when there are sooo many options, vote it down to the top two and then take a vote again. . . .

I think the issue here is that people are not voting when they have the right to. Making things different, or possibly harder, for those who make the surveys or have to present the outcome doesnt seem like the answer. If we ranked or voted or counted cherry pits it still would have only been 29 out of what 60?


Lets ROCK THE VOTE peoples. I personally feel like if I didnt take the time to speak up on something I had a vote on then I really have nothing to complain about when the results are in....but thats just me. Not that anyone is complaining or that this cant be looked at for an over haul but lets be sure everyone is pulling their own weight and speaking up.
