Sponsorship!

Hi league! The bout planning committee has decided that it is essential for sponsorship to become a bigger priority as we prepare for bouts; it is important that we make more than we spend, and this is one way to help ensure that this happens. The following is a letter that will be going to the Fresh Meat (thanks, Freshie Heads, I will be sending it to you to share as soon as I post this message), asking them to seek sponsors. Essentially, we should never ask Freshies to do something that we ourselves are not willing to do. We have to be good mentors to make this league a continued success, both on and off skates. So, please make a pledge to find a sponsor or two for the next home bout. Below, you will find information on some helpful hints, as well as the sponsorship letter.

Hi freshies!! We are so happy that you are part of this league, and we look forward to getting to know you all better! Although all in this league love to skate (and the passion will hopefully only grow for each of you as well), this isn't possible without being able to raise money to cover our bout expenses. In addition, we have a beneficiary each bout, donating a portion of our proceeds to them. We have given over $35,000 to local charities in the past two years!! So, we are asking for your help in fundraising. We would like each of you to try to find a sponsor for our next home bout (October 13). This is easier to do than one thinks--think of where you regularly do business or who you know with a business! I usually present it like this: "Hi! I'm a part of the McLean County Missfits, the roller derby team here in town. We have an upcoming game on October 13. For each home game, we choose a local charity, donating some of the proceeds to them. This time, we are donating to the Neville House, a domestic violence shelter in town. To be able to donate to the charity, we seek sponsors to help cover some of the expenses. Sponsors not only get to help local charities, but they also get marketing exposure to potential clients. For $100, a sponsor will have their business logo printed in our programs (usually 400-600 people per bout), and they will also be able to sponsor a skater (which means that any time that skater's name is announced, it would be followed by "sponsored by...." Would you be interested in this opportunity?"

So, once you get a sponsor, all that is needed is for you to get the business to send a copy of the logo to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. And, get the $100 (or other amount) and give it to DV Aunt Rose or Nonny Noisemaker.

Oh, and I also meant to say two other things, 1) that this is something that everyone could do, not just skaters. Refs, NSOs, Mafia, and other volunteers can help with sponsors as well, and 2) we are all individual promoters for this league, so sell as many tickets as you can! Thanks again!

I think we should contact all the sponsors from the 5khaos, they had a ton for it being the first year! If those sponsors werd in with no way of knowing if it would be successful, why wouldnt they want to support a groupp that has been doing this over 2 years?

HI! Before I forget, Scotty (the owner of Shooters lounge & Kicks in Towanda) is an old family friend (I've known him pretty much since I was born)...and when I recently saw him he said that Kicks would like to be a sponsor for our next bout! I think we can prolly rely on him for regular sponsorship, especially cos he's besties with my parents
So, should I contact him or will the committee contact him?

That's GREAT! If it's ok with you, we'd appreciate you making contact and sealing the deal. (If you need help tho, just let me know.) Look at the sponsorship letter above for prices, and have them send us their logo for the program by Oct 5th. If it's a skater sponsorship and you don't have someone in mind, we can help you choose.  If you'll be going in person, have him put up a poster too!

Bump. We're coming close to the end of being able to accept sponsors for this bout, but we've got a few more days! Please have logos/checks in by Friday evening (Monday at the LATEST). But, please keep looking for another sponsor for the November bout for the next two weeks or so!! It will likely be especially important for that bout, as we have two home bouts in 3 weeks, so we may not be able to pull as big of a crowd.

Scotty's outta town but I met with Jodi, his manager today about Kicks sponsoring someone...she has to officially clear it with him, so it's looking like Kicks will be in for 11/3 but not next weekend.
