I WANNA B your captain for 2012 for so many reasons! I have a passion for this sport and specifically this league. I enjoy the strategy, organization and leadership required to run a bench. I just want the Wanna B's to be as bad ass as humanly possible! Let's do this Wanna B's!

I Wanna B the captain because we are the Bee Sneeze...(yes! double pun!) I love the MissFits and I would be soooo happy to captain for the WannaB's. I fancy myself an efficient and clear communicator, which is useful when contesting calls or explaining rules to my fellow skaters. I also would make our practices and bouts as fun AND effective as possible. Later B's!

I Wanna B your captain because I have the experience, the passion, the drive and, most important, the time now to do so! I've been around since the very beginning and I know all of you and your skating ability/dedication/drive and would be able to help put together and lead the best B team in the entire freaking world. You best believe. I believe in all of you and I hope you believe in me too.

*** I'd like to add that I know I haven't been as present for the last month or so, but don't judge my passion for the league by the amount of time I put into the more superficial aspects of derby. Even though I can't make Sunday practices, I spend much of my off time watching, thinking about and studying derby. I have a family and 2 jobs and I know most of you have a life outside of derby and, as your captain, I promise to make us kick SO much ass while still respecting that derby can't be 100% of our lives all the time. I think it's important to balance instead of burning out. ***

.....I love all of you guys. So much. Everyone has been super supportive while I've being going "frantic city" in my personal life. If I am voted into the position as captain I would have to say no. I have a giant "shit salad" on the plate I call my life right now, and I like Skating out frustration and not worrying about anything. If I were to be a team captain right now, it would add more frustration than it relieved and although I am brimming with sincere honor, love, and pride; I must decline my nomination. If ya'll want me on your team...well that's a whole other buffet. I have the hugest lader boner for each and every one of you. You make my life magic.

and also add, that while the wanna bs roster for 2012 will be different than the current one, i love the spunk and feistiness the wanna bs have. i was helladisappointed i couldnt skate with the bs in wisconsin and hellajealous i couldnt beat the shit out of tha truth, but my heart was filled to the brim brim brim with love and pride for the wanna bs. im excited for the future of the bs! it'll be a great season!

I Wanna B your team captain because I want our B team to be better and stronger with every practice, every bout, and I want to be the one who's at the back of the shopping cart, pushing as hard as I can to help you all get there, and steering just as tight as I can from the front so that your effort is used efficiently.

I'm excited about Roller Derby because it's a new sport, with so much potential. When I'm not doing roller derby, I'm teaching about other sports - which really means I'm learning as much as I possibly can about other sports. I hope I can bring all that I've learned about Derby and everything else to the Wanna B's, to help put together a team so kickass that when we bout the other teams are left picking themselves up and saying "that was the *B* team? I'm scared to see what their A team looks like!"

I know my skating skills aren't comparable to a lot of yours. But I like to think my research and teaching skills are, and that I'll be able to work with refs and other teams to help us out as we need it. And if you're on a B team I co-captain and don't skate better than me, by golly you will by our first bout - because that's how I'll measure success. The student is supposed to surpass the teacher. I hope you'll give me a chance to see what we can do in the next year, and how far we can go!

I Wanna B your team captain. Why? Because I LOOOVE the Wanna B's. I know some/all? may think I am this quiet meek little girl but put me as team captain of this team and I can show you who I really am. I can yell with the best of them...when the time is right. I may not be the best skater, but I do understand this game and love it. I have the leadership and organizational skills to help run a team. I am very fair and great at seeing the whole picture.

My name is Mrs. Cakes, and I would freaking love to be a Captain of the Wanna B's.

I have not been here from the beginning, but I have played derby for about two seasons. I understand derby. I love derby. I obsess about derby. I study all aspects of derby, from game play to strategy to bout day diet. I'm not gonna go through my whole 'why I started derby' story, as you have heard it all. What I do want to do though is tell you that as the B's captain I will work my ass off (again . . cause it's gotten a little chunky lately) to acheive my dream for the B's.

Why Tayz, what are you talking about?

I have a derby dream. (I would be clever here and rewrite Martin Luther King Jr.s 'I have a dream' speech and relate it all to derby, but it is far too long and it is way too late and I would have to google WAY too many words to make it work right)

I really do have a derby dream. I want to build the B's into a cohesive, well trained, derby machine. And I mean that. I want a TEAM, not just a random group of random wheeled women that randomly play together in random packs that only know random rules of derby. No more random. I want a group that communicates, that knows what her teammate is going to do, before she does it, that can recognize her pivot's voice from across the track and understand what she wants to accomplish. I want a bench of passion, I want a team of 20 ringers, I want a physical team that I can grab a fresh jammer from even after 50 minutes, I want a team of thinkers, a team that can change a play on the spot and have it make sense. No more random packs. No more cluster communication. I want 20 skaters willing to wear the MissFit Wanna B jersey and feel the pounding in thier chest as they hold thier hemet over thier heart. I dream of a TEAM that intimidates and performs. I dream of the Wanna B's.

And I have a plan to make that happen.

Well, gee golly gosh B team. I guess working in Peoria all night means we saved the best speech for last
I love every single one of you derby girls equally and have tried hard to prove myself the leader I hope you want me to be. In every aspect of my life I work hard to be the absolute best while training my crew (whether it be at work or in derby) to be just as good as I am. I have put my heart and soul into this league and have worked diligently to become the derby girl I am today.

I want to share my knowledge with every single girl, be her up and coming or seasoned veteran. I want every person in this league to understand the amazing feeling of winning with your sisters as well as the down of being number 2 but partying like you're number 1.

I have learned so much about derby in this past year and can't wait to learn even more to share with you! I go to every vet practice (unless work is a bitch and makes me close) and I try to attend every freshmeat practice because honestly, the only way to know how to effectively run a team is to know who the future of your league is.

I have a lot of strong competition for this role but I can only see every single one of us doing a great job. I can only hope that I Wanna B your captain as badly as you want me to be.

Well said everyone! This is going to be a tough one to vote for!!!

Now that we've done our campaign speeches, why don't we take advantage of this thread and talk specifics - let people know what they're getting into, and get some ideas out there so whoever the new captains are can have everyone's material to work with?

(OK, I'm really suggesting this because I'm impatient and crazy curious, and I want to know more about what Tayz has in mind NOW NOW NOW, and stalking her would probably be inappropriate....)

But here's a few things I'm thinking of:

Open practices. I'd want at least one B team practice a month to be open to all MissFits. The worst part about being a captain will be having to limit a team to 20, when I'm confident any 20 MissFits would make an awesome team. Regular open practices will give everyone a chance to show off what they can do, so they're able to compete for spots next time around, and will let everyone learn more and make the whole league stronger.

Stats and video analysis, for us and for our opponents. As a team, we can keep data on every single scrimmage if we want to, and analyze our strengths and weakness. We can use the stats tools to see how specific lineups work well together, or how they work against certain opponents (useful only if we play someone more than once, but let's hope we have a lot of bouts!) We can also start scouting opponents.

Bringing in outside help. One of the things I love about college towns is you have a ton of people around who know about all sorts of stuff, and they're usually pretty willing to share their knowledge. So let's find someone to help us with training and injury prevention.

Personalized training programs. We can get this free, online. If we all work on developing our own endurance and agility training, we'll have that much more time in team practice for skills work. We can't leave out endurance entirely - gotta stay honest! - but that's something everyone can do on her own.

Viewing parties. Let's get together and see how some of the better leagues are playing, and what we can learn from watching them.

So those are some of my ideas for what I Wanna B doing in 2012. What else do you have? Let's throw 'em out there and help get things rolling for whoever the new captains are!
