committee meetings

Re: committee meetings
Set a timer?
We need to do this at the league meetings as well. It's so easy to get off track and talk forever. What can I say? We all love the sound of our own voice! haha
Maybe do that thing they do at summer camp where the only person who can talk is the one holding the "talking stick"? I don't know. That's all I got.

Tips for running effective meetings:
1. Start On Time
2. Have An Agenda where everyone can see it including timeboxes for agenda items
3. Have a 'Parking Lot' - If the topic veers off from the stated topic, ask the person if they wouldn't mind putting the issue in the 'parking lot'. The topic is then written down wherever the parking lot is (usually a big piece of paper I post on the side or it can be another document on my laptop, or just another sheet of paper) and it will be revisited in the last 5-10 min of the meeting. Leave room for revisiting the parking lot at the end of the meeting in the Agenda!
If you want to run a directed meeting, be sure to take a position of power in the room where its easy to see you and preferably you have a height advantage. This will often mean having the rest of the group sit while you stand. When someone else presents, have them take the floor and stand as well. This naturally draws focus and authority.
These are just a few quick ones to help.

Re: committee meetings
I have to say, nearly everytime I talk about PR it gets cut short then I have to rush and I always forget to talk about something. I also get very very irritated that everytime I start talking I get inturupted and then the convo steers off...really I hate it...sorry its just I feel like its my time to have the floor and everyone wants to talk over me. So if we could eliminate that I think the committee heads would be able to get. Through their bussiness a lot faster and more effective.
Re: committee meetings
i agree ass. i was thinking about that last night-i try and start with what we need to talk about and end on a good note but (especially last night) with starting late and the massive side discussions we didn't get a lot done. i know we touched a lot of issues but there are still some not decided on. i appreciate you telling us how you feel. my suggestion might be to limit the representing missfits from each group (example being that there were 3 from hr?) and also having each committee head send me their topics before each meeting and setting time limits as howser suggested. i know we all love each other and derby, but these meetings are getting longer and longer and this is something i cannot do in the evening hours.

Re: committee meetings
I love the idea of an agenda and a timer, for real. We're a bunch of chatty bitches which is great when we're NOT trying to get shit done, but last night was kind of ridiculous especially for those of us with families and lives. lol.

I agree with agendas! Sometimes I have felt like I have to rush through my stuff cause we r over. And starting on time is huge! Sometimes we don't start till like 20-30min after its supposed start dur to either talking or waiting for late people.
