i don't know the answer to any of these questions, but i think you should do it! we can jump in together and you can use me as a floation device. or we can get a blowup raft!

I think that we just have to go completely under water and then get out. Like, not just dip our toes in, but actually put our heads under! EEK! I think I'm just going to run and dive in and get my ass out!

It's not like the video/pictures that were posted of the Peoria girls doing that plunge, in Bloomington you have to go in to the water-wade out about 15-20 feet (waist deep) go around a barrier and then go out a different way. You don't have to go completely under if you don't want to!
