HR candidate's election speeches
Here are the speeches I received, I will do a separate post for each candidate.
Out of all of the candidates I received a few "Thanks for the nomination, but no thanks" emails.
These candidates will not be included on the ballot.
Ward-no thanks!
Wrecksy- I am responding to my HR nomination. Unfortunatly life is crazy busy right now and I don't feel like I would be able to commit the amount of time that this position requires. I love this league and will help in any way that I can!
Dinah-Here’s my official “thanks so much, but no thanks” response to my HR nomination. Although I’d seriously love to do this, I really really really want to be a part of the process and planning committee when it takes shape.
Pushy-With having the plague the past few weeks (still not breathing right) and buying a house, I've decided to take a personal leave and reverse my decision to run for HR. I'll help transition all the files for HR when the announcements have been made and can arrange to give them whoever wants them. Mr. Pushy and I will be helping out at the bout, but I'm just not ready to bout and being sick really kicked my ass. Like still winded when I walk to my car sick...stupid pneumonia! Anywhooo, I just think I need to take a time out so I can heal and tend to a few personal items. I'll be back on skates in April if that's ok.

Well, I'm not very good at long winded speeches, so I'll keep this to the point. It was a very hard decision to step down from being Treasurer and in turn having to leave the board, but that one position did prove to be a large task to have to balance against work. However, I really loved being able to be a voice within the league and I don't want to ever loose that ability. I am excited to be given the chance to run to be on HR so that I may be able to continue being that voice. While HR does have some large responsibilities, it is nice to know I would be able to split those with 3 other amazing ladies or gentlemen.
I want to be as involved in this league as much as my outside life will allow, and I feel this is the position to do it in. I am very organized in my ability to keep records. I am able to treat confidential matters as such and will not reveal important information even when goaded to. One of my favorite things to do at work is to deal with and help solve issues among my personal, a talent I would love to use in the derby world. I am level headed and not easily angered. I treat issues only with solutions- I hate going round in circles talking about just the problem. I am great at sticking to the rules set by an organization and following them to a T- no matter the issue. I also believe that every skater has a voice and should be treated equally and fairly, something HR is great at promoting. In short (well actually, this went on much longer than I expected!) I have many of the skills and most of the knowledge it already takes to be an effective member of HR due to my experiences with these issues in my real life job. I want to always be able to help the league and its members in any way possible, and I feel that I have often been an ear to listen to. I am known at work as "the person to go to if you want something to get done" so why shouldn't I try for that same title in derby?
I am so excited to continue on with this league and give to it in as many ways as I can. Thank you all again for this opportunity to run for HR!

I'm not sure who nominated me but thanks! I was just thinking yesterday that I don't have enough problems, so please tell me yours. I'm interested in this position because I have the league in it's best interest. I care about it's future, which includes keeping this league cohesive. I will work closely with the board to follow procedures to keep skaters safe and comfortable.
Jackers may have written this.

P.s. I would like to see hr bring some positive vibes to this league:)

Hello Everyone! I am so honored to be nominated with all of these wonderful people for election to the Human Resources Committee.
I want to be a member of HR because it is very important to me that every Missfit has a voice and that everything is fair. I know that people tend to say life isn’t fair, but I believe that it is very important that we try to make everything as fair and as just as possible. I want everyone in the league to know that if they have a problem, a concern, or a suggestion, that they can come to the HR committee and that we will work to resolve the problem.
I also believe that standards and rules are just as important as feelings and instincts, and I know that I will make every effort to make sure that the rules are followed. Everyone should get a fair shake in our league, and everyone should be subject to same rules that we all know about. Sometimes the rules are inconvenient and inefficient, but they are there for everybody’s protection and I want to make sure that everyone feels safe and protected in our league.
I will be a strong committee member because I already have plenty of experience dealing with sensitive issues during my day job. I have to ask people a lot of difficult questions, and they have to trust me to keep that information private. I also think I am a friendly and approachable person. I also have worked hard in all my roles with the Missfits and am an active participant in our league. You can trust that I can address issues with sensitivity and kindness and that this work will be a priority.
I will do my utmost with the information I am entrusted with on the HR committee to make sure that everyone in our league loves it as much as I do. I want all of us to be happy league members who believe that we all have role and a voice in our league. I will work as hard as I can to make that a reality.

Thank you for the nomination for HR. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to run. I've never held any formal title in roller derby but have been involved for the past year. I feel that I am qualified for a position in HR because of my past, who I am today, and for what the future of the league needs.
In the past, I have worked for a couple of government entities before starting at my current employer. My former roles included privacy and security of all parties involved. In 2002, I founded the modern day bank fraud department at work and helped develop its foundation through its current model.
Today my job includes 24/7 availability and acceptable decisions for all parties involved. My job is a Senior Case Specialist in Financial Services. I analyze issues that arise, determine why they happen, and address them as needed. I also represent my department on our ethics and compliance committee.
I have been an NSO since I started in derby and have been reliable. I always notify someone if I don't plan to be at scrimmage and have helped lead our leagues NSOs to learn other roles. I do what I can to help the league be the best it can be. I feel as if I am approachable and I want everyone to be comfortable in the league.
If elected to HR, I have the background and experience to work with the other members of HR to come to fair and reasonable decisions while working in tandem with the board as needed. I want a good environment for all members of the league, on and off skates. Safety of all members of the league is important to me and I want to do my part to ensure the league progresses as well as possible.
Thank you for considering me for HR.

Munch (Lindsay)
I will keep my HR election speech short (and hopefully sweet):
I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Illinois and have some education background in mediation. I have also served as a sexual harassment officer for a Peoria construction not-for-profit organization. Both of these positions require anonymity and looking at the situation to make a decision: not basing any decisions on personal experience or beliefs. My experience has allowed me the opportunity to work in a variety of settings and one thing has always stood out: following policy and procedure comes first. I’d love the opportunity to help out and to be an integral part in difficult situations, while remaining calm, unbiased, and respectful.
Thanks for your attention to this matter,
Sincerely,
Munch

I have been wanting to be part of the HR process since I started with the Missfits because I have been impressed with the HR committe and its members since day one. I pride myself on being level headed, patient, and a good listener and I feel these are characteristics needed for such an important role. Also, I have held employment in HR for a large organization before so I understand fully the responsibility, dedication, and confidentiality needed to sit in this position. Altho I am very excited to have started my new job 3 weeks ago, it has been challenging time wise to get to practice with the hours I am working. Because I like to give of myself %100 in any position I take on I fear I will not be able to dedicate myself fully to HR and the responsibilities involved.
That being said I will have to respectfully decline the nomination at this time. Good luck to all those running!

Re: HR candidate's election speeches
non skaters never get a vote on league issues.
this may change in the future now allowing non-skaters to hold elected positions, but that hasn't been voted on yet on how to proceed.
