3/3/2012 miller park zoo stampede

oh hey missfits the miller park zooo is a huge organization that has tons of very wealthy donors and they get lots of publicity from the newspaper and the television stations so we thought this could be a great pr opportunity for our march bout. the annual stampede is 1 of the major fundraisers for the zoo. i've been talking with the head of there fundraising and she would love for the missfits to come help i have a list of jobs and times that you would need to be there rough count needed by feb 8th. several board members of the zoo have been to a bout and they are all super excited to help us get some PR!!!!

Miller Park Zoo Stampede Volunteer Form

Miller Park Zoological Society (MPZS) is gearing up for its 15th annual Miller Park Zoo Stampede. This 5K run, 3K walk, and ¼ mile fun run will take place March 3. This is one of MPZS’s major fundraisers. MPZS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the rich history of Miller Park Zoo through fundraising, education, and community outreach.

We are currently seeking volunteers for this year’s Stampede. All volunteering will take place in Miller Park or the surrounding neighborhood (as indicated below).

March 3 - ALL ITEMS BELOW TAKE PLACE ON THE RACE DAY (see detailed descriptions below)
• Parking Enforcer, 7:30 – 11:00am
• Registration, 7:30 - 9:30am
• General Assistant, 7:30 - noon
• Course Flagger, 9:00am - noon
• Water Stop/Timer, 9:00am - noon
• Food and Service, 8:30am - noon
• Fun Run, 8:45 - 10:30am
• Clean up, 11:00am - 12:30pm

Detailed Volunteer Descriptions:


Parking Enforcer - There will be a person stationed at the Wood St. entrance to Miller Park to inform those trying to enter the park that the park is closed for the event, and to direct those who are there for the event to the appropriate parking areas. Requires and assertive but friendly personality (outdoor assignment). (3 volunteers)

Registration – Three tables with 2-3 people at each table. You will set up the tables and registration areas, greet registrants, check them in or register them, make sure they have their race bib, goody' bag and t-shirt (if applicable) and direct them to the starting line. (10 volunteers)

Course Flaggers - Keep the race route safe and direct race participants so they know where to go (outdoor assignment). (20 volunteers)

Water Stop/ Timers - Fill cups with water and have them available at the water stop. If we have enough volunteers, some may also stand away from the table to hand water to runners as they pass. One or two people will have stopwatches and will yell out times to runners as they go by (outdoor assignment). (8 volunteers)

Food Prep and Service - Set up food tables and ensure that the food, beverages, and associated paper ware products provided for the adult and child race participants and volunteers are out and well stocked. (8 volunteers)

Fun Run - There will be 2-3 volunteers at the end of the race handing out snacks and medals to the children as they finish. We would also like for several volunteers to be spaced along the Fun Run route encouraging and clapping for the children as they pass (outdoor assignment). (8 volunteers)i'll ask the mafia about making a few signs and maybe getting some cheers going for the little kids!!!)

Clean Up Crew - Will assist the committee in all aspects of tear down and clean up, including inside the Pavilion, and along the race route. Assignments could be outdoor or indoor, so must be prepared for both. (6 volunteers)

i know the league takes alot of everyones time but we are working together this year to eliminate some of the smaller fundraisers and focus more on the pr/community involvement so let me know if you wanna help a sistah out!!!

Awesome! Several people have signed up so far; I am going to be out of town this weekend, unfortunately. Just wondering, for the future, did it look right? It isn't looking right to me, but it may be because I am looking at it from the maker's view.

Laursony I use signup genius all the time! It looked just fine. There are several ways to do it and yours worked out good! i

it does look dif than the other signup geniusus we've had but i think thats because you set it up as an event that we can rsvp to. in the past it was sign up to work a certain shift or bring certain items... i just looked at it and it says ima has rsvp'd but she didnt pick a certain thing to do.... i kinda like that option it just may get missed when we have a bigger event ( a bout)

i know you all signed up for specific things but they have aton of elderly people that re taking care of indoor things so they really only need us as flaggers and for cleanup!! from susie

There is a group that will be stuffing the participant bags on February 26.
If you can get me 300 flyers with upcoming bout info by then, I will put them in the bags.

Also, I think I'll have all the MissFits be flaggers.
Flaggers need to be at the Pavilion by 9:00 and will be done by noon.
All volunteers should report in on the second floor of the Pavilion.
They should definitely dress for the outdoors.

We will be giving all the volunteers a pass to come to the Zoo

yep she has some elderly people doing the early things since they are inside and we are young and verile and can handle being out doors!! so everyone show up at9!!

Im sorry Ben I am going to have to cancel coming to this. I started a new job today and I just found out I have to work this Saturday. My apologies Sir.

Mark, I guess the job duties that are needed are no longer what is on the sign-up genius. If you would still like to help, flaggers are needed from 9-12.

Just would have been nice to know that I was not needed and take off the sign up.

I think I can come to this- I didn't sign up for anything, but I'll just meet you all there and someone can tell me what to do.

Sorry about that, Mark. I guess I assumed that Bates' post took care of my need to make edits to the sign-up genius, but I probably should have edited it nonetheless.

I hate to do this last minute, but I think I'm going to have to back out of this. With the car situation and family now staying at my house this weekend, it's probably better if I host them. If I'm definitely still needed, please let me know and I will try my hardest to figure some stuff out. Thanks! (and sorry! )

no problemo rosie anyone else that wants n on this let me know t wrecks i already got you down!! they will have check in similar to ours,,, which is at 9am so if you can show up a little early to find prking and be at the check in table at 9 they will go over locations and job responsibilities then a driver will take you to your spot on the route!! also be sure to dress for the weather cause you will be outside hopefully it will be as nice sat as it is today!!!! thanks again everybody this type of stuff is good PR (see polar plunge) ) and is going to be more of a focus for us this year than small fundraisers!!! oooh and you will get a free pass to the zoo for helping!!!!

ugh i had signed up to be a course flagger but just realized this conflicts with an art ed conference I'm attending at Eastern on Saturday...sorry to have to back out!!

Will it be ok to bring Maddi??

camp you are more than welcome to bring maddi as long as she has an adult!!
