how did i miss this?

alright, here's my 'pick me!' speech:

first of all, ive been a missfit since before we were missfits. i was at that very first dennys meeting and have been present ever since. ive been on the board pretty much when we decided to have one. aaaand im the attendance nazi.
those things out of the way, besides the peoria bout, i have been the captain in every bout ive played. i think my most success was as wherewolf captain and i think its because i treated it as though it were my real team. i contacted all the fosters to find out what they felt their strong/weak points were and relayed that to our bench coaches to use for lineups. i felt like i took care of the first time bouters by making some practices specifically for them and meeting with them to answer questions and try to get rid of their fears. the day of the bout i felt like even though we came from all over, we really came together and worked like we've been doing it for ages. i was incredibly proud of everyone.
i think ive got this game down and am constantly thinking of ways for improvement. i personally dont have quite the skills to do it all, but thats what running a team is about. delegating, helping where needed, and showcasing the strengths of your teammates. i feel like you should work on where youre weak and be proud of what youre good at. as far as how you play derby, i will be quick to tell you exactly what you need to do and even quicker to tell you how great you did.
as far as bench coaching, i love to do it. i love the combinations of figuring out who works well together and being the eyes for the jammer and pack. i really want to improve these skills as well by learning and executing plays and strategies. so far we improve with every bout, but of course we can always do more!
in other news, this injury happened at a dumb time, yeah? i hope my recent lack of presence doesnt discourage anyone from chosing me. believe me, as soon as i can skate, i will. WITH a bionic ankle! i might not be able to skate by homecoming, but i should most definitely be able to have a dance off with my future teammates.

love,

Sorry! I was at Bonnie D Stroir this weekend too so I am just now getting to this so for those of you who haven't voted!...

I see that a consistent argument for everyone to be chosen for a captain is that y'all have been here for a long time. Well, I clearly have not. I would just like to give everyone a little background on myself so that you can wisely choose if you would like me to be the captain of our fourth home team:
My mom taught me to skate when I was about 10 so I have been skating for a long time. I was a rink rat. I have a strong set of basic skating skills, and I am very passionate about skating so roller derby seemed very natural for me.
On September 29th 2010 I started (with Kate Devious) the Illinois Valley Vixens. I am completely self taught in roller derby. I knew little to nothing about it before I started that league. I busted my ass stalking other roller derby players and leagues for help, and spent countless hours reading and watching videos on line. I still do that! I led that league as president and founder. I co captained that team at a bout and was the Vampires co captain. I have also been an NSO and bench coach. I have held several different roles and gained mucho experience throughout my first fantastic year of derby.
I left that league for lots of reasons, one is because we did not share the same competitive views about roller derby. I am very driven when it comes to this sport. And I treat it as A SPORT. I love the camaraderie of the women and enjoy the fun parts too, but I am in it to win it. And with that I will take whoever is there with me to the top provided that they are willing to work towards that goal with me. I love this league. I still hold my special place for the Vixens, but I always was jealous of the missfits when I was a vixen (don't tell Wink) and now I am proud I can have a place here, even if it is only as a skater.

I know I am still getting to know everyone but, if chosen, don't forget I would be a co captain. So I am confident that we can choose a great team and lead them to victories. For me a victory isn't just winning a bout. Its growing together and overcoming our own obstacles. We are only as strong as our weakest skater. I have worked with many different personalities and I would be thrilled to captain alongside any of you fucking awesome bitches (even if your name isn't on the ballot) so if you're up for it, bring it on!

So....hey kids. It's me. Dinah D. It's clear after reading all of this that I don't have the experience the other girls have. I haven't bouted or coached and I don't have all of those fun experiences under my belt....yet. I think what I lack in experience I make up for in heart. Every single time I walk into practice I am so damn glad to be there. Not just to derby my crazy ass off, but to watch and learn from all of you. I am at all times cheering for every single one of you and it's been so awesome to watch everyone get better and stronger and the league continue to grow and kick even more ass. When I walk into that gymnasium I feel like I'm home and all my favorite people are there. And I want to get better and stronger and more kick ass for all of you.

But it's not all just fun and games and cheers in my happy little world. I'm also crazy competitive and insanely driven. When it comes to business, I always hold it down. I'm organized, able to think quickly on my feet, and detail-oriented. I was super stoked when I was asked to coordinate the last bout because it gave me a chance to do what I think I'm best at, and I think it went pretty well. By trade I am a teacher and a business manager and those are the two things I love to do most in life. I thrive on learning and making myself better, and love to encourage those around me to do the same. I put my full effort into everything I tackle and being captain/co-captain of this new team would be no exception. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn and to be taught and to start with something fresh and new and mold it into something that will blow the friggin roof off any joint. And that's how I like to roll.

Regardless of who you all vote for, I think it'll be the perfect choice. This league is filled with so much heart and talent and I am happy to just be a part of it.

Love you bitches like whoa,

Molisher

So better late than never, right??!

Basically it goes like this, I love derby and I would do anything for this league and all of the women included in it. I think that I would be a great team captain for the new team and that I could really help them grow and learn as a group. Since becoming a Missfit I have been at almost every freshmeat practice and vet practice. I am constantly trying to learn and grow as a skater and do my best to pass along what knowledge I pick up to my fellow skaters. Since being on the freshmeat committee I have had the opportunity to help teach and watch all of the new girls learn and develop their skills on a weekly basis. Having done this I think it will greatly help me to be able to pick a great 4th team!

As a 4th team captain/co-captain I think I will be able to pass along my passion for this sport and all of the knowledge I’ve picked up and continue to pick up on a daily basis! So in short, pick me!!

Much derby love to each and every one of you!!!!

PS... is it terribly obvious how horrible I am at writing speeches???!!! pale

When I first saw this no one had written anything...I decided at first not to write anything down because I believe that we all know each other and reguardless of what anyone could possibly write in a speech we still all know how we feel about each other and what each one of us is capable of.

I know that EVERY SINGLE one of the nominees for the 4th team captain would do an AMAZING job. Because you are all amazing women, strong and capable. A leader must be organized and knowledgable. She has to be able to make things happen and be ahead of the game. I know that all of us nominated could do that job very well.

I can imagine this sounds like a ridicuous speech to be writing in response to "why should you pick me" but I just don't feel like that type of speech is really necessary for me to do.

I love all the Missfits and know that everyone will make the decisions for captains based on what they all believe is best for this league and the creation and success of the new team.

I love you Skarebear
